A new study has revealed that the average American will start seeing ageing signs such as wrinkles, unexplained aches and grey hairs at 42 years. However, around 15% of respondents reported seeing the signs at 35 years.
The study surveyed 2,000 Americans comprising Gen Z, Gen X, millennials, and baby boomers. Respondents indicated that at 34 years, they are at the peak of their health. Additionally, 46% of Gen X seemed unaware that they couldn’t partake in the same diet regimens or fitness as they could when they were young until after 40 years.
One-fifth of respondents acknowledge they are presently in denial regarding their body’s ageing, even though they begin to see the need for adjustments to their wellness and health habits around 39 years. About 30% of participants stated they were in denial but now accept the situation.
Of the respondents, 61% postponed making necessary changes for 3-6 years, with 29% putting off making adjustments for up to two years.
The study established that things like slow metabolism, joint pain, and the onset of chronic conditions are among the top indicators of ageing.
Many people are changing their wellness and health regimens in light of these obvious adjustments. Overall, 36% of people are changing the supplements and vitamins they use, with baby boomers (41%) the demographic most likely to do so. Baby boomers make up 40% of the population who are modifying their diets, whereas Gen Xers make up 34% of the same group. Despite being very young, 30% of Gen Z members are still doing this.
Around 31% of the respondents said that they are changing the exercises they engage in with age Millenials are getting ahead of ageing compared to others, with this demographic 36% more likely to change than Gen Xers (31%) and baby boomers (30%)
Millennials are likely to practice mindfulness or meditation, but 24% have challenges making these changes.
