Cannabis might hold significant potential for addressing inflammation. According to a recent study, an international group of scientists has disclosed the anti-inflammatory attributes of cannabinoids. In other words, CBD could potentially possess the capacity to promote healing within the human body.
The research team at Friedrich Schiller University Jena concentrated their efforts on investigating the interaction between human immune cells and distinct elements derived from the cannabis plant, notably CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Although previous research had acknowledged the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabis, the precise mechanism behind this effect remained elusive, but recent research has shed light on this matter.
Due to its applications, ranging from stress alleviation to skincare enhancement and pain mitigation CBD,has experienced a significant surge in public interest over the past few years. Some projections suggest that by the year 2024, the CBD sector could attain a market valuation of approximately $20 billion. Although consumers extol its potential for pain management, there has been limited empirical studies into the actual effectiveness of CBD in human subjects.
First study author Lukas Peltner said that they found eight cannabinoids that exhibited anti-inflammatory properties. All the substances they examined demonstrated the ability to hinder the production of pro-inflammatory signaling molecules within cells, while simultaneously promoting the generation of inflammation-resolving compounds.
Notably, CBD garnered significant attention due to its potent anti-inflammatory properties. The study findings indicated that CBD stimulates the activity of 15-lipoxygenase-1 enzyme, leading to the generation of compounds that mitigate inflammation.
Co-author Dr Paul Mike Jordan said that CBD triggers a switch in the affected cells thus steering the inflammatory process to the inhibiting side from the promoting side.
These discoveries may open up avenues for novel therapies aimed at addressing inflammatory ailments by harnessing the formidable anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. Dr. Jordan emphasized that certain sanctioned cannabinoid remedies include CBD, along with the psychoactive THC, known to be linked with various adverse effects. An exclusive CBD-based medication could help alleviate these apprehensions.
