In the recent past one of TikTok users, Cole Kelley demonstrated on it how those in the real estate can save hundreds of thousands of dollars. The 47-year-old financial literacy teacher has so much zeal in the areas of personal finance. Surprisingly, Kelley’s TikTok post on investment garnered more than 400,000 views. Another, APR financing offer has over 250,000 views.
He aims to get the kids thinking, exploring and wanting to learn more. Hence, he is not just another typical user on TikTok. As of August, he had more than 93,700 likes with 16,600 followers. Surprisingly, he neither uses Facebook nor Twitter to solicit followers.
According to TikTok, since October there has been an increase of about 172% in the use of finance-related hashtags. They include #invest, which has more than 30 million views, #couponing and #personalfinance with over 12 million views.
However, of concern is ‘who is behind what sounds like complicated financial matters and how helpful are they?’ John Pelletier, a director for Financial Literacy at Champlain College’s Center asserts that so long as the snippets from TikTok are helpful and with accurate information, it may be the only way to get it to the young people.
