Data Entry Jobs For Seniors

A data entry job can be a good choice for a senior citizen, as there are many work from home (also called remote) opportunities for this type of work. Another positive feature is that most of these jobs don’t require any college education and many are actually entry-level (no prior experience).

General Types Of Data Entry Jobs

There are four basic categories of jobs that usually get included as “data entry”:

1) Basic typing of letters and numbers – literally data entry. The job requires taking information (can be words and/or numeric figures) from a source like a written report or email, and then transferring that information into your computer. Speed and accuracy are the key skills needed here.

2) Transcription – this is where you take information from an audio or video recording and get it typed into the computer. Sometimes this also entails translating the information into another language. Speed is important here also, but accuracy and understanding are more crucial.

3) Editing – here you review and correct data that has already been input by another person. This is common especially in areas like accounting, financial and medical information. This job usually requires some background in the subject matter being edited.

4) Specialist – these are jobs that require education and usually experience in a specialized area. This can include medical billing and record keeping, legal documents and real estate documents. This area of work also pays the highest.

Data Entry Job Salaries and Job Opportunities

Data entry jobs that are located at the employer’s place of work, pay between $10 – 22 per hour. The more experienced or specialized you are – the higher the salary. For most work-at-home jobs, the pay is usually by the piece of work done, as an independent contractor rather than as an employee. In general, the more productive you are, the more you will earn. Also, as with in-office jobs, the more experienced or specialized you are, the higher your pay per piece of work will be.

Please be aware that many work-from-home job offerings, including data entry ones, are scams. Be very wary if you are asked to pay any kind of money to get the work.
