Delta and American Express Introducing Changes To The SkyMiles Credit Card From 2020

More perks for AMEX SkyMiles credit cardholders
The cards offer rewarding perks to current and future cardholders for flying Delta and they will have to earn Delta status by spending on the credit card. As part of the changes that both companies announced in September 2019 the companies also indicated that they will be offering huge welcome bonuses. Other positive changes instituted include higher earning rates on the credit cards as well as some travel statement credits.

For holders of the SkyMiles Blue Card and SkyMiles Gold Card will earn 2 miles per $1 spent on purchases and restaurants across the world. Equally for the SkyMiles Platinum and Reserve Card will receive 3 miles per $1 spent on hotels and purchases as well as another 2 miles on $1 spent in groceries in the US.
Increase in annual fees

However, the goodies might look amazing but that is not all as there are some negative impacts of the changes. With the changes, it will be more expensive to hold six of the seven Delta-Amex cards annually. The annual fees have will increase by $4 to around $100 more than before depending on the type of the card. the only card remaining with no annual-card fee is the Delta SkyMiles Blue Card.

The Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card and Reserve Business Card which will see the annual fees increase to around $550. They will share the annual $550 fee with the AMEX Platinum Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve. The current cardholders will pay more in annual fees when they renew their cards and new cardholders will pay the fee immediately. Similarly, airport lounge access fees have been increased for all the cards.
