When cruise lines are faced with many unfiled cabins, and there are only a couple of days left before sailing, they adopt the premium cabin discount technique. This is a discount option to encourage members who had initially booked economy or business cabins to make an upgrade. This discount helps fill up premium cabins to offset the cost of setting them up and prevent loss.
With previously booked ticket holders making an upgrade to luxury cabins, the ship will be left with more empty economy cabins, which will need to be filled. The cruise line normally fills these cabins by offering a much lower discount to the public’s targeted audience to encourage them to book with them. Some of these targeted audiences include online cruise sites that carry out mail listings of people looking to grab such offers.
The discount given for economy cabins is usually lower because the cruise line makes more money from them than the luxury rooms. Most luxury rooms have almost all the necessary facilities and amenities needed that occupants won’t have to buy or pay for some services not covered by the ship, unlike economy cabins where occupants will have to pay for services like spa, gym, and other similar services. In the long run, the economy cabins give more money to cruise lines compared to expensive cabins.
