Because of online shopping sites, virtually every kind of merchandise is available for purchase online, including jewelry. Not all of this merchandise is new, many sites sell used items, again including jewelry. Some of theses online sites will buy or arrange for the sale of your unwanted jewelry items. The best four of these sites are discussed below.

"Worthy"

Worthy is a site where they arrange online auctions of better quality used jewelry items. You contact them and send them photos and a description of your item(s). If they are interested, they will send you a prepaid shipping label to send them the items (it will be insured). They will then inspect the items and advise you if they think they can sell them and an approximate price. You can set a minimum price, which they must honor. If they end up selling your jewelry, they will send you the money via check or bank transfer, minus their commission (ranges from 10 – 18%). If the items are not sold, they will ship your items back to you at no expense.

This site has a good reputation and you basically have no risk using them – but usually only items worth over $1,500 each are appropriate.

Cash For Gold USA

As their name implies, this site is in the business of buying gold. This includes not just gold jewelry, but anything made of gold. Plus, they will consider buying items even if they are bent or damaged. You send them a description of the items and if they’re interested, they will send you a prepaid shipping label to send them your items, insured. They will then let you know if they are willing to buy and for how much. If you accept, they will send the money to you by bank transfer or even PayPal. If you refuse the offer or they don’t want to buy, they will ship your items back to you at their expense.

WP Diamonds

This site specializes in loose diamond and diamond jewelry, but they will consider other types of fine jewelry items. They work much the same way as Cash For Gold, with prepaid shipping to them and back to you (if necessary). Upon approval of your items, they will make you an offer. If you accept, they will send you the money by check of transfer. If you don’t accept, they will ship your items back at their expense.

The RealReal

This oddly named site is actually a consignment “store” – they put the items up for sale on their site, but they don’t buy them upfront. They sell a variety of higher-end items, including jewelry. Like the other sites discussed, they pay for all necessary shipping and will return to you any items they don’t want or can’t sell. They charge commissions, which make this site only practical for items worth over $1,000 each. They pay your net proceeds via check, transfer or credits – to be used to buy things on their site.
