This is a perpetual calendar chronograph with a steel case and an integrated band that looks a lot like previous Aquatimer models. There aren’t many perpetuals (new or old) with this more “tool watch” style, and despite being a touch hefty, this one has held up nicely since its release in 2001.
Some may argue that it’s a “lesser option” from IWC because it uses a perpetual calendar module on top of a Valjoux 7750 chronograph calibre, but when you consider that the comparable Portugieser with its 8-day power reserve is much bulkier and has movement issues, it’s hard not to side with the GST if the aesthetics appeal to you. Also, for a perpetual chronograph, this device is a fantastic deal at approximately $7-$9k.

Only 7,291 watches utilising this cal. 2120/2800 were ever made between 1978 and 1993, when it was succeeded by an upgraded calibre that included a leap year indicator. Even though it’s made of yellow gold and only measures 36mm across, the notion that you can get your hands on an exceedingly small permanent calendar from AP for roughly $11-$12k still amazes me.
