Elon Musk has made another divisive remark about the usage of prescription pharmaceuticals to manage mental illnesses. In recent tweets, the Tesla CEO appears to have stated that he doesn’t support the use of prescription medicines, emulating a well-known anti-drug campaign known as DARE.

Tesla CEO in controversy regarding the uses of psychiatric medications

In recent weeks, the Tesla CEO has been in the news for his intention to buy Twitter stock. However, in this latest debate, the entrepreneur addressed a separate issue concerning medical communities.

According to his tweets from last Thursday, Musk dislikes the usage of a batch of psychiatric prescription medications. According to Futurism, this group of drugs comprises antidepressants such as Adderall, Ritalin, Wellbutrin, and other medicines that are linked to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

In a tweet, Musk noted that Adderall is an anger amplifier that must be “avoided at all costs.” In addition, Musk noted that Wellbutrin was even worse relative to Adderall.

Musk prefers psychedelics for the treatment of mental health issues

In an odd turn of events, the billionaire appears to support the usage of psychedelic medicines and ketamine as therapy for persons suffering from mental health issues. Musk has also made assertions about the usage of stimulants, as though sad people who use this medicine engage in genocidal action.

The US FDA approved Adderall use in ADHD treatment, and it can be used to support individuals with poor listening, lack of attention, and careless mistakes. Ritalin is also used in ADHD treatment and has been in use since 1954. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that has SSRI properties. The drugs are manufactured and available through Novartis, Bausch Health, and Duramed Pharmaceutical.

Musk’s criticism received a lot of attention from different communities supported by these established medications. But, interestingly, his insights might be driven by the side effects that users don’t consider. For instance, Adderall leads to loss of appetite and should not be used by individuals with cardiovascular issues. Also, Ritalin has a range of side effects, with Wellbutrin uses likely to induce suicidal thoughts.
