Here are the Dos and Don’ts During The Baby formula shortage

In Education

For a parent, it is a nightmare to think about not being able to feed their baby. Unfortunately, with the baby formula shortage in the US, the situation is becoming a nightmare for parents. For quite some time, but after Abbott Pharmaceuticals recalled most of their formula products, resulting in a formula crisis. As a result, store shelves are empty, and although the government and formula companies are working to restore supply, it could take a while before the supply is restored.

What should parents do during this shortage?

Parents should try various websites and stores in search of baby formula. Putting out the word to family and friends to look and check social platforms could help. Most organizations, pages, and sites offer information on where to find baby formula.

Besides your favorite brand during the crisis, be ready to purchase other brands because it doesn’t matter since the contents could be the same. If the baby uses specialized formula, the parent needs to check with the doctor to advise on alternative brands to use.

Always buy from reputable sellers and sites to be certain that you are buying real formula. If you receive your baby formula from a medical supply company or WIC, you should call them to see if they can assist.

If the baby is almost a year you could use toddler formula or soy milk and if they are over six months, try giving cow’s milk.

What are the don’ts?

As much as there is a shortage, never dilute the formula since the diluted formula doesn’t have calories, and it can be dangerous. You should not buy formula not approved by the FDA since it may not be safe. Don’t try making your formula, as it might not be safe.

Avoid plant-based milk apart from soy milk that you can give to babies above ten months. You shouldn’t give juice instead of milk since juice doesn’t have the nutrition value needed. If you find the formula, you shouldn’t hoard it. Although it might be tempting, you should think of other families and babies that are facing the same problem.
