Social Media Fitness Trends Turning Young People Into Narcissistic Traps

In Education

According to the latest research, a popular social media phenomenon is raising the alarm because it has the potential to fuel followers’ narcissistic tendencies. Instead of promoting the well-being and health of people, especially young women, the trend brings out the megalomaniac side of the followers.

The report warns against following fitness hashtags on social media

According to a News Net Nebraska report, an analysis by Malmo University’s Department of Sports Science analysis supports the assertion regarding the caution. The report indicated that the hashtag  #thoughts Still Solid was trending on Instagram and Tiktok globally.

The trend has been on the internet for some time. According to most sports influencers, sharing images of exercise to enhance strength and build muscle is meant to motivate individuals to follow their track and achieve self-improvement.

The hashtag #fitspiratiion is popular on the internet, and workout and fitness images shared with the hashtag are meant to inspire individuals to work out. However, that is not the case, and they lead to people, especially women falling into this narcissistic trap. Sports scientist researcher Aurelien Daoudi said that women are forced to work out by the desires and approval of others.

The study went on to say that reification has an intrinsic rationale in image-based social media networks like Instagram. Daoudi added that it “is not impossible” to express oneself in a photograph completely. However, he added that a photograph could not fully express who an individual is as a person.

Fitness personalities offer only health and fitness tips

Most social media fitness personalities have millions of followers, and they have created their programs and managed to turn them into a profitable businesses. These personalities offer different programs and encourage followers to share their photos before and after.

Although their techniques have managed to deliver results, it is vital to note that only some are fitness experts. Therefore, someone sharing their fitness story needs to ensure that they are an expert in the sector or know more.

It is important to remember that social media influencers are offering fitness and health tips and don’t guarantee the results you are looking for.
