Study Reveals That Pork and Beef Burgers Offer High Protein Content Compared to Plant-Based

In Education

A recent study conducted by the University of Illinois, Urbana –Champaign, reported that pork and beef burgers provide a more digestible protein and amino acid than plant-based burgers. The study respected that Plant-based diets offer several advantages to a person’s health; however, it argued that plant burgers are not as good.

When it comes to developing plant-based burgers, there are more muscle-building ingredients than the calories listed on the packet. Although plant-based burgers claim to provide a similar level as the latter, unfortunately, old-fashioned beef or pork burger still outshines it.

Most people associate protein with muscle building; however, a person’s muscles require essential amino acids available in protein diets. In addition, some of the amino acids are important in terms of both digestibility and concentration.

How the researchers conducted their research.

The study authors used the DIAAS, established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Keen to the FAO’s recommendations, the study authors used pigs as their test subjects.

As part of the experiment, the pigs consumed pork and beef burgers and two types of plant-based burgers, namely pea and soy-based burgers. The team then reviewed the digestibility of every burger’s content of amino acid and used their data to determine final DIAAS values.

DIAAS’s scientists found that the pork and beef burgers were terrific sources of proteins. However, the study authors believe that an impossible burger with no bun is better. Furthermore, the study authors only consider the revelation to be true for persons above three years.

The study finds that most people eat burgers with buns

Despite the study’s results, most people prefer to eat their burgers with buns. The study authors took this into account and experimented the same. However, the study revealed that the bun reduces the protein and essential amino acids content.

This loved ingredient leads to a lower DIAAS score for all types of burgers. However, the study revealed pork and beef burgers boasted a 100% DIAAS score even with the presence of the bun. In addition, the DIAAS values of the burgers with the bun were 107 and 105, respectively, compared to the plant-based burgers.
