Study Shows That Americans Enjoy Going on Road Trips

OnePoll conducted a study for EconomyBookings.com that looked into the habits of Americans during road trips. Researchers found that 50% of respondents preferred going through small towns while on road trips, even though they would spend less time on highways.

The survey of 2000 Americans also looked at what Americans feared during their trips. The fears they reported include using roads they weren’t familiar with (37%), foreign roads (41%), and driving at night (42%).

The participants also expressed confidence in their driving abilities, with 40% saying they were the best. Despite this, about 61% were only willing to go on road trips if someone else was driving. Moreover, the preferred trips that lasted an average of seven and a half hours.

Researchers also found that many Americans had gone on approximately seven road trips.

Americans made interesting discoveries on road trips 

About 78% had discovered hidden gems as they went on their trips. Many believed they would not have made these discoveries if they weren’t on the trip or used a different route.

The respondents liked to make planned and spontaneous stops while on the road (35%). The spots they preferred to visit include attractions on the roadside (38%), historic spots (40%), and restaurants (46%).

About 32% of the participants enjoyed listening to a playlist on road trips. About 40% believed the driver should be the only one choosing the music. Despite this belief, about 42% would let their passengers choose music.

Some respondents admitted that they enjoyed the journey more than the actual trip (74%). Furthermore, 70% preferred to leave their cars and choose a remark car for a road trip, with a portion of them picking a convertible over other cars. Other respondents liked that going on road trips gave them the option of driving a different vehicle.

Americans list the benefits of road trips

The participants listed the advantages of a road trip. They included making their schedule (53%), saving on money (46%), making sudden or planned stops (48%), and bonding with friends and family (51%). Another 51% stated that they enjoyed traveling with their spouse the most.

Another 76% of respondents said they would pick road trips over flying if they knew the trip would be fun.
