The Best-Selling Video Games of All Time

In Gaming

To start the list is a fairly new game by Blizzard – Overwatch. It’s a team-based, first-person shooter game that’s so simple and addictive, that it’s no wonder it earned a spot among the best-selling video games of all time. It has sold over 35 million units by now and will probably sell a lot more.

Mario Kart Wii, a Nintendo game, was released in 2008 for the Wii console and has sold over 37 million units.

Super Mario Bros. has sold over 40 million units and it ‘s also one of the oldest games on this list, released only a year after Tetris. It also belongs to Nintendo.

The best-selling video game on a single platform, Wii Sports, it’s also among the best selling video games of all time with over 82 million units sold. It was released in 2006 on Wii only and is now by far the best-selling game Nintendo has ever made. That’s saying a lot since Nintendo has made 19 of the top 50 best-selling games in history.

With over 90 million units sold, Grand Theft Auto V further catapulted Rockstar Games into the stratosphere. The game was released in 2013 and it doesn’t seem like it will ever stop selling. Due to the fact that it costs a lot, it’s probably the most financially successful game of all time as well.

Minecraft was released in 2011 and quickly took the world by storm. This is mostly because of its unique openness and the freedom it gives to the player. Minecraft has made its creator, Markus Persson, one of the most notable designers in the video games world. It also made him one of the richest. Minecraft has sold some 144 million units and is one of two games in history to cross the threshold of 100million units.

Tetris is, by far, the best-selling video game of all time. It’s probably very hard to find a person who hasn’t played this game so it’s no wonder it’s on the throne. Released over 35 years ago, it seems like it’s going to remain number one forever. The game exists on many platforms and is still being bough on smartphones mostly. It has sold around 170 million units.
